TAXES AT WORK by Alex Lambros 3/13/08

Union Township Trustees continue to show arrogance and self-interest in the mismanagement of our tax dollars.
After the Tuesday night regular session of the Union Township Board of Trustees, a disciplinary hearing was heard on fireman Jamie Osborne. The board forced several dozen citizens to stand outside in the cold weather on the basis that additional room was needed for the hearing and refused to utilize the monitors in the lobby or provide accommodations in other meeting rooms.
Citizens have the right to attend all public hearings!
This disciplinary hearing resulted in the termination of a veteran firefighter Jamie Osborne. The allegations were for his refusal to answer questions about union activities, the distribution of political campaign material and for the lyrics to a song.
These questionable charges violate our fundamental right of freedom of speech and the right to organize. In the past, township management was aware of several favorable political activities and never made an issue of it. This action does not deserve the capital punishment received.
This fiasco will result in the spending of thousands of dollars on a vendetta. The citizens of Union Township should demand the trustees to stop squandering and mismanaging their tax dollars. The taxpayers lost again.

Thats funny that you say the taxpayers loose again, yet the taxpayers are the ones that continue to elect Republicans in Clermont County. Cliff Johnson ran in 2007, and this story broke about his involvment with the fire department, and yet, the taxpayers still elected Beamer. That should tell you something! The citizens are happy with the Republican Party because even with opposition, they still get elected!

Township trustees ie. township management has no right to demand or receive any information regarding union business form an elected union official. Said official has been chosen and sworn to serve the best interest of it's paying membership. Union business is not open to the general public or township management. Township hearings however are by law open to the public even if they are held for the sole purpose of harassing union members.

Pretty sad when it is so easy to derail the democratic process. This is the result of so many years of unchallenged Republican rule.
