Stalling tactics. Questionable science. In the past few years, we've seen Big Industry put a lot of effort into stopping global warming legislation. But we've finally reached a point where we have a chance.
Next week, Congress will be voting on a bill to reduce global warming emissions called the Climate Security Act. Now is our chance to truly tackle the climate crisis by making this bill as strong as possible.
This is our moment. At this time, when we have a chance to pass truly effective global warming legislation, will you lend a hand?
Americans are standing up and demanding courage from our political leaders. We need more than a minor fix for the major problem of global warming. We need to ensure that we get the best possible bill out of this opportunity.
We're seeking a bill that:
- Cuts global warming pollution levels 80% by 2050.
- Requires polluters to pay for pollution permits, and uses the money earned to promote clean energy and help consumers with rising energy bills.
- Finally minimizes subsidies to energy companies and maximizes the amount of program proceeds going to the public benefit.
As we face a crisis that imperils our very planet, we're asking Congress to seize this critical moment and act as environmental leaders. It's the most important vote in the history of our campaign to stop global warming. Will you be able to say that you were there when the tide turned?
Urge your senators to strengthen – and pass – the Climate Security Act next week.
